word processors
By noah adler
Word processors have always been able to allow users to choose between regular text/typing and word processing mode. Word processors allow users to make documents more organized and presentable in a business environment. They also make some jobs of making the documents quicker.
Some examples of word processors are Microsoft office, Open office, and other lesser known processors made by smaller companies/firms. The term word processing was invented by IBM in the late 1960s. IBM describes the word processors as "the combination of people, procedures, and equipment which transforms ideas into printed communications ".
Word processors really took off in 1971 because a third of all working women were secretaries ,which means there was alot of people that would be using this word processing equipment. The equipment was said to "breaking down secretarial labor into distinct components, with some staff members handling typing exclusively while others supply administrative support. A typical operation would leave most executives without private secretaries. Instead one secretary would perform various administrative tasks for three or more secretaries." So these word processors really affected the business world in a positive way cutting expenses and making things more simple.
In conclusion, we still use word processors to this day and they have had a great impact since 1971. The processors revolutionized the business world by making secretarial work quicker and more organized. So word processors have been a large part of the business and non-business part of writing documents.
