Programs and apps

By noah adler

Programs and apps are very similar to each other, they both are used to do something on your computer. But according to tom mcfarlin "But the truth is that I believe “app” or “application” is a significantly better term". He thinks this because an app is an application to a problem and not something else.

Most of the programs and apps are made for the specific purpose of solving a problem for the end user. So that is why it is an application to a problem. But if it was something like a video game it still should be a program because this technically doesn't solve a problem directly. So the term is overall defined by if it is solving a problem directly or not.

To be safe though just use software defined by callnerds.com as " Any part of a computer that isn’t physical (i.e. “hard”ware) is software". So if you arent' sure about what to call a program/ app just refer to it as software because all non-physical things on a computer are software. Software is from the moment you boot your computer to the website you go on.

To end, software, program, or apps it is used by you and the terminology may be confusing but keeping in mind what I stated before you should have it down. So programs are something that don't fix a problem directly and apps are. If you are ever concerned about what to call something just call it software, remember all this and you will be good to go.
